Stress And Weight Loss

Karan Chopra / / 0
One of the largest components to weight loss is one that many people do not even consider when they are trying to lose weight. The health of your mind is just as important as the health of your body. Those who have a lot of stress may find that it is more difficult to lose weight and get stronger. In a cruel twist, those who are overweight and out of shape often find that their stress levels are higher. Why does stress make people gain weight and where does it come from in the first place? How can one combat this?

Where Does the Stress Live?

What is it that is causing stress in your life? In today's world, many different things can be at the root of your stress. Perhaps you are having trouble with your job, or you might be worried that your job won't even be there tomorrow. Maybe you are having relationship problems. The bills and debt might be piling up, and you might not know what to do about it. You might worry about things that are entirely out of your control too. As mentioned earlier, being overweight and unhealthy often leads to a stressful life. Stress, as you can see, comes from everywhere.
How do people cope with stress? Everyone is different, but many people have very unhealthy ways of coping with it. Some people drink and other people turn to drugs. Others eat too much, hoping that the food can comfort them, even on a subconscious level. In some cases, parents would give their children treats when they had a rough day or when they didn't make the team. This triggered a coping mechanism within the individual that equated stress relief with unhealthy food.
As those people grew up, unhealthy food is the place they turned when they were having trouble. You can even see this happening on television shows and movies. When someone has a bad day, eat! If someone has a relationship problem, they break out the cheesecake and the ice cream. When stress levels rise, fast food places around the world are probably doing booming business.

Exercise is an Excellent Way to Cope

Whenever you feel stressed, you need to find a replacement for the food. Exercise is one of the best substitutes available. By replacing those unhealthy comfort foods with some good exercise, you are doing some wonderful things for your body and your mind. You do not have to worry about those unhealthy foods doing more damage to your body and causing you to gain more weight for starters.
Exercise is also great for clearing the mind. When your body feels good and strong, your mind will follow. Working out can bring a euphoric feeling, a sense of happiness and peace. Those feelings are perfect for combating stress. You will be able to see things clearer and tackle the problems in your life without resorting to comfort food. It can take some time to replace food with exercise, but it is in your best interest.
